Privacy Policy

1. About This Policy
Sacred Anthology ("Sacred Anthology," "we," "us," or "our") is a digital library of religious and philosophical texts for reading, searching, comparing and study. The Service is operated by Sacred Anthology LLC.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Sacred Anthology website and related services (the "Service"), how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. The Service is intended for users in the United States.
2. Information We Collect
A. When you browse without an account. You can view parts of the library and search without creating an account. We do not ask for your name or email to do so.
B. Account information. When you create an account, we collect:
- Your email address
- Your password, if you sign up with email (passwords are stored and checked by our authentication provider, not by us in readable form)
- An account identifier, account creation date, and account and membership status
- Your settings, such as whether you receive the daily verse email
You can also sign in with Google or Apple. If you do, that provider shares your email address with us and confirms your identity; we do not receive your Google or Apple password. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email" option, we receive a private relay address instead of your real email.
C. Free trial and membership information. When you start your 24-hour free trial, we record the account it belongs to and when it started and ends. When you buy a membership, we receive:
- The email address used for the purchase
- Your plan (monthly, six months, or yearly), the amount and currency
- A subscription or transaction reference and payment status
- Start, renewal, and cancellation dates, and whether the membership is active, cancelled, or expired
Payments are processed by Base44 Payments, powered by Wix Payments, on its own checkout page. Your full card number goes to the payment provider and never reaches us.
D. What your account saves. If you have an account, the Service saves:
- Saved passages — verses you tap to highlight and save, with their book, chapter, and tradition
- Recent activity — your 10 most recent chapters read and searches, shown on your Account page; older entries are deleted automatically
This information is private to your account.
E. Messages you send us. If you use the feedback or contact form (which requires an account), we collect your message, the category you choose, and the email address you give for a reply, if any. We do not attach your reading activity to these messages.
3. AI Features
Some features use artificial intelligence to write answers. When you use them, the information needed to write the answer is sent to the AI service built into our hosting platform (Base44), which may use third-party AI model providers:
- Explain — the verses you select are sent so an explanation can be written.
- Ask the Library — your question and the library passages found for it are sent so an answer can be written.
- Cross-Reference & Compare — the topic you choose, any follow-up question you type, and the passages retrieved from the library are sent so a comparison can be written.
We do not save your AI questions or the AI's answers to your account. We keep a count of how many written answers you have used each day so we can apply the daily limit.
Please do not type passwords, payment card numbers, Social Security numbers, government ID numbers, or other sensitive personal information into these features.
4. Religious Reading Is Personal
Because Sacred Anthology is a library of religious texts, what you read, search for, and save can suggest your interests or beliefs. We treat this information as private. We use it only to run the features you use, such as your saved passages, your recent activity, and choosing the tradition for your daily verse email. We do not publish it, build public profiles from it, sell it, or use it for advertising.
5. Technical and Usage Information
When you use the Service, some information is collected automatically by the platforms that run it:
- IP address, browser type, and device and operating system information
- Pages viewed, session length, and general interaction with the Service, recorded by Base44's built-in analytics
- Sign-in events, error reports, and security logs
The Service loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google's servers, which receive your IP address. Our providers may collect this information as part of running their services, under their own policies.
6. Cookies and Local Storage
The Service stores a small amount of information in your browser's local storage, including:
- A sign-in token, so you stay signed in between visits
- An analytics session identifier used by Base44's built-in analytics
We do not use advertising cookies or third-party advertising trackers, and we do not use this information to follow you across other websites.
7. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create and secure accounts and sign you in
- Provide the library, search, saved passages, recent activity, and AI features
- Run your free trial, process memberships, and handle renewals and cancellations
- Send account, purchase, and membership emails, and the daily verse email if it is turned on
- Answer your messages
- Apply daily limits, prevent fraud and abuse, and keep the Service secure
- Fix problems and improve the Service
- Comply with the law and enforce our Terms of Service
8. Legal Bases for Processing (Where Required)
Where the law requires a legal basis for using personal information, we rely on: contract (to provide the account, membership, and features you ask for); legitimate interests (to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud, and improve it); legal obligations (such as tax and accounting rules); and consent where the law requires it, which you can withdraw at any time.
9. How We Share Information
We share information only with the providers that run the Service, and only as needed for them to do so:
- Base44 — hosting, database, sign-in, analytics, email delivery, and the built-in AI service
- Wix Payments (through Base44 Payments) — membership payments
- AI model providers used by Base44 — the passages, questions, and topics described in section 3
- Google and Apple — only if you choose to sign in with them
- Google Fonts — font delivery, as described in section 5
- Professional advisers such as lawyers and accountants, when needed
These providers have their own privacy policies and terms.
10. Emails We Send
Account and membership emails. We send emails needed to run your account, such as sign-in codes, password resets, purchase confirmations, renewal and cancellation notices, and important security or service notices. These are part of the Service and you cannot opt out of them while you have an account.
Daily verse email. If it is turned on, we email you one verse each morning, chosen from the tradition you read and save most often. You can turn it off at any time in your Account settings or with the unsubscribe link in any daily verse email.
We do not send third-party marketing, and we do not share your email address with advertisers.
11. No Sale of Personal Information and No Advertising
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral (targeted) advertising. The Service shows no advertising. If this ever changes, we will update this policy first and give you any notice and choices the law requires.
12. Legal Disclosures
We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with the law or valid legal process, respond to lawful government requests, protect the rights, property, or safety of Sacred Anthology, our users, or others, investigate fraud or security incidents, or enforce our Terms of Service. We limit any such disclosure to what is reasonably necessary.
13. Business Transfers
If Sacred Anthology is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, personal information may be transferred as part of that transaction. The new owner will be bound by this policy for information it receives, unless you are notified otherwise and given any choices the law requires.
14. How Long We Keep Information
- Account information and saved passages — while your account is open.
- Recent activity — only your 10 most recent entries; older ones are deleted automatically.
- Daily AI usage counts — kept only as long as needed to apply limits and prevent abuse.
- Purchase and membership records — as long as tax, accounting, and legal rules require, even after an account is deleted.
- Messages you send us — as long as needed to respond and keep a record of the request.
- Technical and security logs — for a limited period set by our providers.
Backup copies may remain for a short period before they are overwritten in the normal backup cycle.
15. Deleting Your Account
You can delete your account yourself at any time from your Account page using Delete my account, or by emailing infosacredanthology@gmail.com. Deleting your account stops any membership renewal and removes your account, profile, saved passages, and recent activity. We keep purchase records required by law, as described in section 14.
16. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and get a copy
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your information
- Receive your information in a portable format
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we do neither)
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information
- Withdraw consent where we rely on it
- Not be treated differently for using these rights
To use any of these rights, email infosacredanthology@gmail.com from the address on your account. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within the time the law requires, usually 45 days. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision, and we will respond to the appeal within the time the law requires.
17. California and Other U.S. States
If you live in California, Texas, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, or another state with a consumer privacy law, you have the rights listed in section 16 where that law applies to us. In the last 12 months we have collected the categories of information described in sections 2, 3, and 5 (identifiers, commercial information, internet activity, and information that may reveal religious interests), for the purposes in section 7, and shared them only with the providers in section 9. We do not sell or share personal information for targeted advertising, and we use information that may reveal religious interests only to provide the features you use. Where a state law requires a recognized opt-out preference signal, such as Global Privacy Control, to be honored, we honor it.
18. International Users and Data Transfers
The Service is intended for users in the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate. If you use the Service from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or another region with its own privacy laws, you may have additional rights, including the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Where the law requires safeguards for international transfers, we rely on the safeguards our providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses.
19. Children
Accounts and memberships are for adults 18 and older. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If we learn that we have, we will delete it. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email infosacredanthology@gmail.com.
20. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect your information, and we rely on established providers for sign-in, hosting, and payments. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please keep your password private and tell us right away if you think your account has been accessed without permission.
21. Other Websites and Services
The Service links to and relies on services run by others, such as Google, Apple, Base44, and Wix. This policy does not cover how those companies handle information on their own services; their own privacy policies do.
22. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the "Last updated" date. If a change materially affects how we use your personal information, we will tell you by email or in the Service before it takes effect, and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
